Moncton was great. What a great crowd; I can’t say enough good things about the people here! Everyone was really chill, friendly, and totally into the music. We also got to play with a great gypsy jazz band from Quebec. Super great guys, and incredible musicians!
Extra thanks to the staff at the bar who let us crash in the vacant apartment upstairs at the end of the night.
Onward to Toronto…
We are about an hour outside Halifax, on our way to Moncton for tonight’s show at Plan B. And totally psyched to kick off the first Baketones Eastern Canadian tour.
The van is packed super tight, but luckily we have our trusty videographer, Chafic, along with us in his own vehicle, which is helping to lighten the load. Convoy!
Baketones Music is pleased to announce the release of the third EP in the new Baketones cover album project, “The Cover Up”. Volume 3 is entitled “The Mark and The Shills”, and features selections from Baketones lead singer Ben Kelly.

“Their sound was like a cross between the Who, the MC5 and a package of firecrackers.”
“[The Baketones] were by far the showiest band of the night and their set was nothing short of electric… The energy on the stage was unbelievable.”
“[Keyboardist] Rob used the bat to bash the ever-loving shit out what was left of his keyboard and then handed the bat off to audience members to finish the job. It was really, really badass.”
-Noisography
“it’s not really hard to see why everyone is losing it over The Baketones — they’re really fucking good… their songs bleed dirty, bluesy garage. “I’m A Caveman” is a weird psych freakout a la King Khan, complete with grunts, while “My Sights Are Set On You” features singer Ben Kelly barking come-ons over a nasty guitar riff.”
-The Coast
The Baketones burst on to the scene in early 2009, their debut performance spawning critical acclaim. Halifax impresario Craig Hamlin, promoter and alumnus of numerous influential Halifax bands including The Dean Malenkos, raved on the city’s local music bulletin board about the previous night’s short set and dropped a link to the Baketones’ MySpace. A small frenzy ensued, and before long, the dumbfounded band was selected as a favorite new band of 2009 by Halifax’s alt-weekly newspaper, The Coast.
Baketones Music is happy to announce the release of the second EP in the new Baketones cover album project, “The Cover Up”. Volume 2 is entitled “Undressed to Impress”, and features selections from Baketones drummer Carlos Garduno.

Baketones Music is pleased to announce the release of the first of five free EPs which, in total, comprise a 15-track album of selected cover songs performed by The Baketones, entitled “The Cover Up”.
The album was recorded over the course of two days, completely live “off the floor”. No studio trickery involved; just raw garaged-up tracks pumped out by five guys who are having fun playing them.
The 15 track album is split up into 5 EPs, each containing 3 songs. Each band member was responsible for picking 2 songs for their “own” EP, with the third song on each EP being a band choice. We will be releasing the EPs every two weeks, leading up to the release of our full length debut album in September, which is entitled ‘Unite’.
The band learned and arranged all the songs on the spot in the studio right before recording them. The idea was to take some songs which were a natural fit with our playing style, and some which were radically different, and make them our own — ultimately putting a Baketones stamp on each of them and injecting some of our own personal musical tastes into the process.
The first EP is entitled “Internal Affairs”, with selections from Baketones bassist Scott Burke.

Montreal punk rockers BCASA will be tearing through Halifax on Wednesday, June 9th, hot on the heels of the release of their debut album, “Fuck It Up Hard!”. They will be joined onstage at The Seahorse Tavern by fellow Montreal punks Chix N’ Dix and hometown garage rock hosts The Baketones.
“Fuck It Up Hard!” is available for free download from BCASA’s web site, http://www.thebcasa.com/.
“The BCASA represent a big part of the Montreal punk scene, but to every other city, they’re just another band with an unusual long name: The B*ll C*sby Anarchist Society of America (censored after receiving a cease and desist order from Bill Cosby’s lawyers).” – Verbicide Magazine
“Dinosaurs playing guitar are cool, but they’re even cooler when drawn in MS Paint. They reach a new level of awesome when they’re on the cover of The Bill Cosby Anarchist Society of America’s album. I don’t know much about this band, other than the fact that they’re from Canada and that Bill Cosby’s lawyers might get these guys in trouble because of their name. To circumvent this issue, the band is abbreviated as the BCASA. They write songs about breakfast burritos, SNES, what if the Beatles reformed in the year 2025, robots, and other things. The BCASA makes pretty cool DIY punk and even offer their album Fuck It Up Hard! for free on their website, http://thebcasa.com/ So go and download it, if you’re cool. The song below is entitled Street Fighter 2 Turbo, but if you’re not a Street Fighter fan they also have a Mortal Kombat track on the album. I don’t know anybody that listens to these guys, but you totally should because they fuck it up hard.” – Jamdek Daily

“The energy on the stage was unbelievable, especially for so early in the night, and Mr. Corrigan performed like a man possessed. During their last song, Rob began bashing his keyboard with his fists, sending keys and various bits of plastic flying in the air. Not content with merely disabling the keyboard, he flung it off the stage and it landed in the middle of the dance floor. Its impact sent plastic debris in all directions like a Fisher Price hand grenade. While the band pounded out the last sustained chords of the song one of the waiters approached Rob with what I thought was a broom, turns out it was a baseball bat. Rob used the bat to bash the ever-loving shit out what was left of his keyboard and then handed the bat off to audience members to finish the job. It was really, really badass.” – Noisography
